The coffee improvement conundrum

I’m making my coffee this morning with a 12 ounce, pour over, filtered coffee cone thinking that I could be more efficient with a coffee maker, when a small voice asks me, “Why are you not just paying attention to this coffee making?”

“I don’t know.” I said. “Perhaps it is because I know there is a way to make coffee without standing over it, pouring only the right amount to fill the cone moment by moment without causing the grounds to overflow and spill into the coffee.”

“And why is not standing over the coffee more important?” the small, slow voice asked.

“Because I could be doing something else while it drips?”

“Why?”

Because there are other things that I want to do?

“Why?

“Because they are fun things to do?”

“Why?”

“Because they add joy to my day?”

“Why?”

“Because they are nice to do while I sit with a nice cup of coffee?”

“Isn’t this fun?” the voice chuckled.

“Oh, hush,” I took my coffee and sat down.
